Main applications for water treatment chemicals (WTC) are drinking water production, industrial applications and waste water treatment. Waste water treatment plants use our products and solutions to control sludge conditions by dosing the right chemicals into their process steps. It’s our ambition to develop a leading position in northwestern Europe. Our position in the European water treatment market has recently been significantly strengthened by the investment in a new plant in Skoghall, Sweden, which came on stream in December 2005, for the production of ferric chloride. Further, a cooperation with Eka has been set up to establish a clear segment focus, with Eka servicing the Pulp & Paper segment and Base Chemicals servicing the Waste- and drinking water segments, based on a common asset base in the Nordics.

Sodium hypochlorite (Hypo) is a chlorine derivative.This product is e.g. used for disinfecting swimming pool water, cooling water, drinking and process water.

Waste incineration services, which are delivered at the Rotterdam site, turn chlorine containing waste into high-quality hydrochloric acid (HCI), a strong inorganic acid. HCl is used for a variety of applications, from acidification to metal treatment, e.g. as pH adjustment and neutralization. Dimethylether (DME), produced at the Rotterdam Botlek site, is used as a propellant to replace chlorinated fluorocarbons and as a co-blowing agent. It finds its application in e.g. cosmetic aerosol products (hairsprays) and in technical aerosol products (paint sprays and building- and construction foams like polystyrene).
